- To develop an interactive IT framework to enable GOC registrants to track their Continuing Education and Training (CET) progress
- Update the system to allow the GOC to manage the approval and quality assurance of CET
- Create a better user experience and allow registrants to manage their CETs more effectively
What we did
Winning GOC’s pitch with Replay Learning (now emotive), we worked to build an updated and more user friendly platform for optometrists and dispensing opticians to use while completing their CET, a legal requirement in order for them to become fully qualified. Registrants undertake CET over a three-year cycle, so we wanted to make each stage of the process as simple as possible.
The new system allows registrants to view their targets for each cycle, track their progress, and search and attend events suitable for their CET portfolio. They are also given access to a helpline and email support service for any enquiries they may have. Training providers are now able to submit CET, and we have added an integrated approval process. This updated system allows an independent panel to undertake the approval and quality assurance of CET, maintaining the approval process as an independent operation.
Achieving a great user experience meant ensuring that the platform was responsive in its display, enabling users of the site to carry out functions on tablets and smartphone devices just as easily as on personal computers. We also spent a long time wireframing the user journey throughout the site to make the process as effective as possible.
It was announced on the GOC website that the first 2,000 registrants that attended their CET peer reviews after the launch of the new site had already met their targets for the 2013-2015 cycle (3 months in).
